Vigilant Paper of
Wrapping Food
In everyday life we often
see and find the use of paper as a packaging food that is considered only as a
wrapper and protective. But not all paper is safe for food packed. It's
important for us to know the good and bad use of wrapping paper as a form of
vigilant to maintain health.
The simplest and oldest
packaging is paper, which is made from the wood bark of which is processed by the Chinese on the
1st or 2nd century BC. Paper food packaging has advantages such as:
lightweight, relatively inexpensive and efficient place. While weakness is
easily torn and burnt, can not pack liquid and can not be heated. Even paper
wrapping material is not the strongest, but its use still persist today.
The paper most widely
used for wrapping food from fried foods to foods that require prolonged storage
such as tea bags, etc. On materials raw food paper are also used to wrap
vegetables, dried fish and even herbs and so on. The types of packaging paper
circulating in Indonesia such as waste paper, wrappers paper rice brown colour,
carton duplex, as well as carton food grade.
Muhammad Adjidarmo, paper

(Pb) is characterized by symptoms 3 P,
namely pallor, pain and paralysis. Poisoning that occurs can be chronic and
acute. Examples of cases of poisoning Pb (lead):
1) In a study of pregnant
women who accumulate a lot of lead, can lead to congenital defects in the fetus and damage the
brain so that the child's intelligence is low.
2) In the adult male, induce to lower sperm quality, making it
difficult to have offspring (barren).
3)
And in children, lead resulted in a decrease in the concentration of
power and intelligence.
Migration

use because as a 100 percent made of natural fibers so that the pure white
color, no spots, and free of the content of bacteria and harmful compounds such
as benzene and styrene (raw materials styrofoam), and will not translucent oil.
In terms of the environment is also environmentally friendly because it is made
from natural fibers are biodegradable. The use of food packaging food-grade
paper is rarely used because it is more expensive.
Therefore, the public
must be more vigilant when buying food products which still uses recycled paper
and switch to using safe food packaging
that can guarantee the quality of food being for not damaged and
maintain a healthy body. Because although safe paper is more expensive but healthier
much more expensive.
Terjemahan
Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari kita sering
melihat serta mendapati penggunaan kertas sebagai pengemas makanan yang dianggap sebagai pembungkus dan pelindung
saja. Tetapi tidak semua kertas aman bagi makanan yang dikemasnya. Maka dari
itu penting bagi kita untuk mengetahui baik buruknya penggunaan pembungkus
kertas sebagai bentuk waspada untuk menjaga kesehatan.
Kemasan paling sederhana dan tertua adalah kertas, yang terbuat dari kulit kayu yang
diolah oleh bangsa Cina abad ke-1 atau ke-2 SM. Kemasan pangan
kertas mempunyai keunggulan antara lain: ringan, relatif
murah dan hemat tempat. Sedangkan kelemahannya
adalah mudah robek dan terbakar, tidak dapat
mengemas cairan dan tidak dapat dipanaskan. Sekalipun kertas bukan material
pembungkus terkuat, tetapi penggunaannya masih bertahan hingga saat ini
Kertas paling banyak digunakan untuk membungkus makanan dari makanan gorengan sampai makanan yang
memerlukan penyimpanan lama seperti teh celup dll. Pada bahan makanan mentah
kertas juga digunakan untuk membungkus sayuran, ikan kering bahkan bumbu dapur
dan sebagainya. Jenis-jenis kemasan kertas yang beredar di Indonesia seperti : kertas bekas, kertas nasi bungkus berwarna coklat, karton
duplex, serta karton food grade.
Muhammad Adjidarmo, pengamat industri
kertas, menegaskan tentang bahayanya penggunaan kertas non kemasan pangan. "Kertas bekas termasuk koran dan majalah seharusnya
tidak digunakan untuk membungkus bahan pangan secara langsung karena tinta yang
terkandung dalam kertas koran dan majalah bersifat larut dan banyak mengandung timbal (Pb) yang sangat berbahaya bagi
kesehatan yang jika terakumulasi dalam tubuh dapat beresiko membahayakan kesehatan," ujarnya.
Di dalam tubuh manusia , timbal
masuk melalui saluran pernapasan atau pencernaan menuju sistem peredaran darah dan kemudian menyebar ke berbagai
jaringan lain, seperti: ginjal , hati, otak,
saraf dan tulang. Bahaya yang ditimbulkan
timbal bagi kesehatan adalah penyakit
cardivaskular ini berkaitan dengan jantung dan pembuluh darah, terbelakang
mental, anemia, penurunan fungsi ginjal.
Keracunan timbal ditandai dengan gejala 3 P, yaitu
pallor (pucat), pain (sakit) & paralysis (kelumpuhan) . Keracunan yang terjadi pun bisa bersifat kronis dan akut. Contoh kasus keracunan Pb (timbal):
1) Pada suatu penelitian wanita hamil yang banyak terakumulasi timbal, dapat mengakibatkan cacat bawaan pada janin dan merusak otak sehingga kecerdasan anak rendah.
2) Pada laki-laki dewasa, timbal menurunkan kualitas sperma sehingga mempersulit punya keturunan (mandul).
3) Dan pada anak-anak, timbal mengakibatkan penurunan daya konsentrasi dan kecerdasan.

Selain itu Muhammad
Adjidarmo juga mengatakan, kertas nasi bungkus berwarna coklat dan karton duplex adalah jenis kemasan pangan primer berbahan kertas yang paling
lazim digunakan sebagai kemasan yang sudah terkontaminasi dan mengandung tinta
cetak, perekat, lilin, bahan pencelup, serta bahan-bahan kimia lainnya.
Penggunaan
kertas bekas, kertas nasi bungkus berwarna coklat dan karton duplex memang
lebih banyak digunakan karena harganya yang lebih murah serta kurangnya pengetahuan dan
kesadaran masyarakat akan efek samping yang ditimbulkan. Cara meminimalisir
bahaya penggunaan kertas sebagai pembungkus makanan, yaitu dengan menggunakan
piring atau mangkuk kaca yang bersih.
Kemasan pangan yang aman berbasis kertas adalah karton
"food grade". Kemasan pangan berkategori
"food grade" aman dan layak digunakan karena 100
persen terbuat dari serat alami sehingga berwarna putih bersih, tidak
berbintik-bintik, serta bebas dari kandungan bakteri dan senyawa berbahaya
seperti benzene dan styrene (bahan baku styrofoam), dan tidak akan tembus
minyak. Dari segi lingkungan juga bersifat ramah
lingkungan karena terbuat dari serat alami yang mudah terurai. Penggunaan
kemasan pangan kertas food grade masih jarang digunakan karena harganya
yang lebih mahal.
Oleh karena itu, masyarakat dapat lebih waspada ketika
membeli produk makanan yang masih menggunakan kertas daur ulang dan beralih
menggunakan kemasan pangan berbahan aman yang dapat menjamin kualitas makanan
agar tidak rusak serta menjaga kesehatan tubuh. Karena walaupun kertas yang aman lebih mahal tetapi sehat
jauh lebih mahal.
